What does an independent financial adviser do?

We are a family-run, independent financial advice firm with over 40 years of experience. We believe financial advice should be personal, straightforward and built around the individual rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

Questions

The advice

What we cover and who it suits

What areas of financial advice do you cover?

Our advice can include:

  • Investment planning
  • Pension and retirement planning
  • ISA and tax-efficient savings
  • Protection policies
  • Inheritance tax planning
  • Estate planning
  • Financial planning for families
  • Business and corporate financial planning

We will discuss your circumstances and objectives before recommending any suitable solutions.

Do I need to have a lot of money to receive financial advice?

Financial advice is not just for people with large amounts of wealth. We work with clients at different stages of their financial journey and can help you understand what steps may be appropriate for your circumstances.

That said, our minimum investment is £50,000 and our minimum advice fee is £795. Below that, paid advice is unlikely to represent fair value for you and we will say so rather than take the fee.

Can you help me plan for retirement?

Yes. Retirement planning is one of the key areas we advise on.

We can help you consider how much you may need to support the retirement you want, how your existing pensions and investments fit into your plans and how you might structure your income in retirement.

I am not sure what advice I need. Can you still help?

Absolutely. You do not need to know exactly what type of financial advice you need before contacting us. Our initial conversation is an opportunity to explain your circumstances and what you are hoping to achieve.

We will help you identify the areas that may be relevant and explain what we can do to help.

Questions

Getting started

Meetings, costs and what happens first

How do I arrange an initial meeting?

Simply ring us on 01772 864314 or ask us to call you back and we will arrange a convenient time to speak. This gives you the opportunity to meet us, explain what you are looking to achieve and find out how we may be able to help.

What happens at the first meeting?

The initial meeting is an opportunity for us to get to know you and understand your financial circumstances, goals and priorities. We will explain how we work, answer any questions you may have and discuss whether ongoing financial advice could be appropriate for you.

There is no obligation to proceed.

Is the first meeting free?

With Paul or Daniel, yes. There is no charge for an initial meeting with either of them and no obligation afterwards.

Mark is our Chartered Financial Planner and generally handles the more complex cases. A meeting with him is charged at £175 and we will tell you in advance if we think your situation needs that depth.

How much does financial advice cost?

Our fees depend on the type and complexity of advice you require. We will explain our charges clearly before you decide whether to proceed, so you understand what you will pay and what you can expect in return.

Our minimum initial advice fee is £795 for a recommendation report, with a published list of additions where a situation is more involved. That fee can be offset against the total initial advice fee if you go ahead. Everything is set out in full on our costs page.

How do I get started?

Getting started is simple. Contact us to arrange your initial meeting. We will take the time to understand what matters to you and explain how we may be able to help.

Questions

Working with us

Reviews, meetings and the ongoing relationship

How often will you review my finances?

Your circumstances and financial objectives can change over time, so regular reviews are an important part of ongoing financial planning.

Every December we write to you with an annual investment report and up-to-date valuations and we offer you a review meeting at least once a year at no additional charge. The frequency beyond that depends on your circumstances and the service that is appropriate for you.

Can meetings be held remotely?

Yes. Depending on your preference and circumstances, meetings can be arranged remotely as well as in person. We advise clients across the UK over Teams and Zoom, with documents signed digitally.

We aim to make accessing financial advice as straightforward and convenient as possible.

Will I see the same adviser every time?

Yes, where possible. We will try to ensure that the adviser who initially sees you looks after you from then on.

Can you visit me at home?

Yes. Home visits are available within about a 15-minute drive of our Goosnargh office at no extra cost. Further afield we may need to charge for travel time and we will always tell you first.
